Great Brick Adventure

I'm almost caught up, but I've got one more summer activity to cover.

Before the kids went back to school, we went to the Lego Great Brick Adventure, a weekend exhibit that came to town.

It was split up between two floors, a safari theme upstairs and mythical beasts in the basement. They also had stalls selling Lego sets, Lego jewelry, and lots of Minifigures.

As we entered the first level, there were several child sized models that the kids could climb on. It's always fun to get to touch and explore, instead of only looking.

There was a random mouth for photo ops (I think it was sponsored by a toothpaste or something).

After posing on the vehicles, we made our way to the giant Lego pit. We sat for a short time building freely.

There were also a few different areas of collaboration. In the first area, we were given a packet containing a base plate, many pieces of different colors, and am instruction sheet. We had to arrange the pieces in a certain pattern, and when we finished, our square was added to a larger picture. It was crowded with all five of us working on it, but we managed to get it finished correctly.

The second collaboration area was building blocks that the staff were putting together to make a 3D hippo. We made a few of these before moving on.

Then we went on safari. The animals and scenery were incredible.

36,000 bricks! And people just come up with these creations!

There were different interactive exhibits set up throughout. The kids had fun flipping "flies" into these frogs' mouths.

On to see more animals!

Before we left this area, we stopped to see battling robots. This was Miles' favorite part, though he was disappointed that he wasn't picked to do battle.

Downstairs, the atmosphere in the mythical beasts section was dark and mysterious. The kids were a bit scared by a few beasts, but were mostly fascinated.

They especially liked any character they've heard about from Harry Potter.

There were no games down here, but there were a few photo ops.

These next two beasts were made of the greatest number of bricks. Impressive!

We saw a few more creatures and then headed out for lunch.

It was a fantastic exhibit, and I thought it was great that they had so many hands on projects. The kids didn't get bored at any point, and it was fun for the whole family. I'll be looking out for similar events in the future.
