Prague - Day 2

After our full day of travel, we let the kids sleep in on Sunday morning. Our hotel offered a breakfast buffet, which we ended up visiting each morning. It was so convenient, and a decent price.

Clara's creation. She played more than she ate.

After breakfast, we decided to walk to Prague Castle via the Charles Bridge. Well, we set out late, and hadn't really planned, so this day did not go as expected.

The streets had little steps in some parts (I guess they were speed bumps?)

An old convent

We walked along the Vltava River instead of through Old Town, and until we got to the bridge it wasn't crowded at all.

The kids took a play break
Then we got our first glimpse of the Charles Bridge. It was crowded, with many street performers and vendors selling souvenirs. We walked slowly at first, until the kids let us know that it was time to eat.

Once we were on the other side, Matt took us in the direction of the castle. I loved the look of the city, although the winding streets were confusing. We stopped in a little cafe for coffee and a snack. The cakes were great, and the kids liked having time to do something they liked (coloring).

And we continued toward the castle.

I loved these kinds of alleyways
According to Google maps, we were getting close. We started up a set of steps, not realizing just how many there were.

Looking down from the top
But when we reached the top, we were rewarded with beautiful views.

Even better, we were right next to the castle grounds.

There are several buildings and points of interest within the grounds, and this was about the time we realized that we should have planned better. We weren't really sure what we wanted to do, and spontaneity didn't work for us this time.

We went through security, and started walking around when the kids told us it was time for lunch (a late lunch). There was a small restaurant several yards away, so in we went. The service was extremely slow, but the kids behaved fairly well. The food was decent, and there was beer, so that helped.

Goulash with dumplings
Schnitzel and chips

While we were waiting for food, we discovered that the tours inside the building would be closing in an hour, but we could walk around outside for a bit longer.  Not what we wanted, but we had to go with it.

We walked around St Vitus Cathedral. The architecture was breathtaking, and I wish we could have seen the inside.

When we turned the next corner, we saw our first Easter market! We stopped to watch a blacksmith make a metal rose, which was pretty interesting.

Then we made our way out of the castle complex.

We stopped again to admire the view before heading back toward our hotel.

Back across the Charles Bridge...

My phone battery was low by this point, so I didn't get many pictures. We were all tired and done with the day, so I went back to our room with the kids, and Matt got takeaway from a little burrito shop. Not my favorite at all. The flavor of the meat did not go with Mexican-style food. Then we had a long and drawn out bedtime, especially with Clara. Once the kids were finally in bed, Matt and I had a beer and went to bed.

Real original Budweiser, not the watered down American version
The next day was already planned out for us, so we were hopeful that it would go more smoothly.
